FAQ
The questions that usually become emails.
Fitness, money, insurance, phones, Sundays. Further down: how we live together, and what we believe.
- How fit do I need to be?
- Moderate to good is ideal. If hiking is hard for you, some outings may not be wise, and you can stay at base camp. Tell us when you apply so we are not guessing on the day.
- Can I travel on my own?
- Not away from base camp. We do not take people out alone, and students do not head off alone. Around the estate, ordinary coming and going is fine.
- What is the refund policy?
- The $500 USD deposit is not refundable. If injury, health, or a death in the family cuts a stay short, a refund of the balance may be considered in proportion to the time left. Being asked to leave for conduct is not a refundable reason.
- Do I need travel insurance?
- Yes. New Zealand’s ACC scheme covers accidents and physical injuries for visitors, and it does not bill you for that. ACC does not cover sudden illness, medical emergencies that are not an accident, lost luggage, a cancelled trip, or a flight home if you are seriously unwell. Some work and student visas also require insurance as a condition. Buy a policy that covers those gaps.
- What about a phone and a SIM?
- SIMs are easy to buy after you land. Plans often run about $30–60 NZD for 28 days, depending on how much data you want. Tell your people at home that New Zealand is ahead of them — morning here is still the previous evening in the UK and North America.
- What does worship look like?
- Shabbat chapel is Friday at 7pm. Chapel may also be Sunday night. Saturday and Sunday are Shalom days, not a packed excursion schedule. Local churches like having us, and sometimes like the help.
- When is the next intake?
- Next intake: 10 March – 5 May (summer into autumn). The other windows are 1 July – 29 August and 23 September – 18 November. Confirm the year when you apply — the dates repeat.
Safety and conduct
At CBINZ we do not take risks, and we do not do the risky things alone. We smile, we say hello, and we answer yes ma’am and no sir. The standard for how we treat each other is 1 Corinthians 13. If that is not how you intend to live for these weeks, you may be asked to go home.
Campbell Park Estate has house rules. So do we. Not allowed: alcohol, smoking, foul language, fighting, or stirring trouble. Also not permitted: men in the women’s dorm, or women in the men’s dorm. The only exception is permission from CBINZ leadership, for a specific reason.
What we believe
The same centre as other Calvary Bible Institute campuses.
God
One true God, eternally Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is infinite and personal. He hears prayer and saves through Jesus.
The Scriptures
The Old and New Testaments are the inspired, inerrant Word of God, and the final rule for faith.
Jesus and the Spirit
Jesus is the virgin-born, sinless Son of God. He died in our place and rose bodily. The Holy Spirit convicts the world and empowers believers.
Salvation, Israel, and the church
Salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone, apart from works. Israel remains distinct from the church, and the biblical promises to Israel will be kept.
