The trip

Eight weeks at base camp, and the country around it.

Destinations are possible, not a guarantee. Every stop is also a chance to meet people. The schedule stays flexible on purpose.

Base camp

Campbell Park Estate sits in the Waitaki Valley. The lodge, kitchen and dining, women’s dorm, teachers’ house, and men’s dorm are all on the grounds. You live here. Day trips leave from here and come back here.

Men and women sleep in separate dorms. Opposite-sex visitors do not enter a dorm unless CBINZ leadership gives permission. Campbell Park has its own house rules, and so do we.

Safety and conduct

Where you go, and why

This is not a coach tour with a souvenir stop every hour. These are the places we actually use for study, outreach, and the odd shared meal.

  • Christchurch

The door in. Church, a few supplies, a barbecue. Transport starts and ends at Christchurch International Airport.

  • Elephant Rocks

Limestone country near base camp, where the final battle around Aslan’s camp was filmed. We come to study in the open, not to run a film tour.

  • Oamaru

Town and beach. Little blue penguins, yellow-eyed penguins, and seals — then back to the Word.

  • Moeraki Boulders

The round coastal boulders. A short stop with room to walk and talk.

  • Clay Cliffs

Eroded clay columns in the Mackenzie country. Stark, quiet, good for a long conversation.

  • Anatini

Whale fossils in the Waitaki’s vanished-world country. The land itself teaches scale.

  • Lakes and rivers

Fishing, swimming, and a simple outreach — pizza or ice cream with people we meet.

  • Wanaka

Home of Celebrate Messiah, with time to see the lake and the town.

  • Queenstown

The lake town, including the famous Fergburger stop. Sightseeing stays in its place.

  • Dunedin

The city and Tunnel Rock. A different coast, still a study day.

  • Milford Sound

Sheer beauty, weather willing. A long day, not a checkbox.

A two-week North Island extension — Hobbiton included — is sometimes possible. It is extra, and it is not part of the $3,200. Ask when you apply.

A sample week

Not set in stone. One week of the eight is a community sports outreach on base. Weather, people, and what the Lord is doing can move a day.

Monday
Bible at 9am. From 10am, practical ministry on base camp.
Tuesday – Friday
Wake, a short devotion, breakfast. Bible 9:30–12. Lunch 1–2. Bible 2–4:30. Dinner prep until 6, then dinner together.
Friday evening
Morning Bible as usual. Shabbat chapel at 7pm.
Saturday – Sunday
Shalom days. Chapel may also fall on a Sunday night. Local churches are glad to have us — and sometimes to be helped.

Who the CBINZ study tour is for

CBI student and those who want to deepen their walk with Jesus. For those who want to be more confident to share the Good News of GOD with anyone they come in contact with.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

John 10:10
  • Ages 18 to 70.
  • Welcome: a mother and daughter, a father and son, a grandfather and grandson, best friends.
  • Fitness: moderate to good is ideal. Limited fitness may mean sitting out a hike and staying at base camp. That is allowed. Wandering off alone is not — except around base camp.

Meals

Meals are how the group actually becomes a group. Three a day, cooked to keep everyone fed and at the same table. Breakfast is continental, with a snack kitchen if you need something simple. Lunch and dinner are made in the commercial kitchen by interns and staff, with students helping — hearty, plain, and enough.

Younger students learn to cook. That is part of the training, not a chore list.

“Good lookin’ don’t last, but good cookin’ do.”
